7 simple tips to find your flow

Feeling Stuck? Feel like there is no way out? Then try these 7 simple tips to help you find your flow again. I emphasise ‘simple’ because there is nothing tricky or expert about these tips yet they are super effective. They are things you can do right now. Are you ready to flow?

1. Move

When we move, no matter how simply, we change. How can we not? Even the simplest movement shifts our energy and once energy is flowing then we transform. Change your seated posture every hour, go for a walk, dance, handstand – anything, just move! I always find my inspiration comes during or after movement.

2. Breathe

Sounds simple right? Yet conscious, deep, expansive breath can actually massage the abdominal organs. A lot of us tend to breathe quite shallow and high. Shallow breathing though can actually trigger anxiety responses and keep us feeling stuck. By taking the breath deeper and lower, not only do we trigger the parasympathetic system that helps to calm us but we also massage the internal organs and encourage blood flow. Deep breathing can also aid digestion (if you are feeling stuck in more than one way).

3. create space in the body

Stretch the body so energy can flow and doesn’t get stuck in the joints or muscles. Wherever you feel tension in the body, wherever you feel stuck in the body, stretch it out. Give the body space and you will feel that energy flow!

4. create space in the mind

Mindfulness or Meditation is a great way to create space in the mind. Perhaps you are stuck in the same thoughts patterns every day. Take your awareness to your mind and catch the thoughts that are keeping you feeling stuck. Awareness is the first step to change. Once you become aware then you are able to change the thoughts to serve you better. When you change your mind, you change your life.

Let go of anything that is no longer serving you go!

5. de-clutter

De-clutter your room, home, bus, workspace etc so you have a clear space to channel your energy. When we feel cramped physically, we are literally creating a trap for ourselves. Clear up your space, clear up your mind, allow energy to flow. Perhaps even learn some tips from Feng Shui.

6. Read something inspiring

Read something that motivates, inspires or challenges you. Whenever we read something that moves us, we also are moved and therefore transform. Not much of a reader? Then watch a documentary or film. Yet watch something inspiring, motivating or challenging rather than mind-numbing, which will keep you in a state of feeling stuck.

7. listen to music

Listen to some music that moves you! Put on whatever you need to shift your energy. If you want to feel more energised then pop on your favourite song to dance to – and dance to it! If you want to feel calmer, put on some ambient music to slow down your mind and calm your soul. Music has such transformative power!

The ideas above are all simple, common sense even, yet when you feel stuck, it is easy to forget that we have these free tools available to us. What helps you when you are feeling stuck? Let me know in the comments below.

And I will leave you with this beautiful quote by Thich Nhat Hanh:

“There are many ways to calm a negative energy without suppressing or fighting it. You recognise it, you smile to it, and you invite something nicer to come up and replace it; you read some inspiring words, you listen to a piece of beautiful music, you go somewhere in nature, or you do some walking meditation”
